ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police at the University of Texas at Arlington are looking for a man who followed a female student and then pointed a gun at her. It happened in a parking lot on the campus and comes on the heels of the university's attempt to get a grant to step up campus security.

The student said that she was heading to the campus in broad daylight on Wednesday when she noticed that a man in a white truck was following her. She parked her car near the intersection of South Cooper Street and West Mitchell Street and the man parked too. At that point, the student told police, the suspect walked up to her, yelled a threat and pointed a handgun.

According to investigators, the man then simply drove away. Police have described the suspect's vehicle as a white Ford truck with a Texas flag on the antenna. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact campus police.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have increased their patrols in the area.

But there is more that you can do to help. UTA is seeking to step up their campus security, and is competing for a grant in a contest which has been running since January. Stanley Security is now accepting nominations for the Safer Schools grant contest, which awards $200,000 to provide security products for schools and hospitals.

The University of North Texas in Denton is currently in first place, followed by UTA. The voting ends on Friday and the Arlington school has been making a final push on social media. Click here to see how you can cast a vote.
