FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Several hospitals across North Texas will come together Tuesday to make a statement, centered around how your infant is sleeping. Cook Children's Medical Center is teaming up with JPS Hospital, Baylor Medical Center and Harris Methodist Hospital to launch a new awareness campaign focused on safe infant sleeping.

Tarrant County has one of the highest infant mortality rates in Texas, exceeding the national average. Health experts said that the number is disturbing.

According to officials at Cook Children's Medical Center, infants die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) more than any other cause in Texas. And the number of children who die due to bed sharing is at an all-time high, with 159 deaths just so far this year.

So, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, representatives from the four medical centers will share the dos and don'ts of infant sleeping, and answer your questions during a live Twitter chat. You can join the social media conversation by following @CookChildrens and #SafeSleep on Twitter.

Some of the things that experts recommend include:

-- Always put your baby on his or her back, even during naps.

-- Use a fitted sheet, and keep pillows and blankets out of the crib.

-- No swaddling! Instead, use a sleep sack or footed pajamas.

-- Do not use bumper pads in cribs.

You can find more information about safe infant sleeping on the Cook Children's Medical Center website.
