TARRANT COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - The Tarrant County Coalition of Crime Victim Services will plant a tree Thursday, April 25 in recognition of crime victims rights week. The Crime Victims Memorial Tree Dedication's roots go back a decade. This year's theme is "New Challenges; New Solutions," which reflects the increasingly complex mission of victim advocates today.

The TCCF was formed in 1987 by service providers and law enforcement agencies who were concerned with crime victims and their families. The TCCF says advocates face emerging challenges, such as globalization, changing demographics, immigration, human trafficking, terrorism, new types of crime and the use of technology both to commit and solve crimes.

Victims' rights are not universal and often not enforced. Victims do not always receive the dignity and respect they deserve, according to the TCCFV, and often absorb the physical, emotional and financial costs of crime largely by themselves.

The dedication takes place at 10 a.m. on the Tarrant County College, Trinity River Campus.
