Timing Out Storm Chances for this Weekend in North Texas
THIS AFTERNOON...
A warm front is lifting thru North Texas this afternoon. Temperatures are starting to warm into the low 80s and a few breaks in the clouds can be found from Dallas/Fort Worth southward. A few stray showers will be possible mainly for those areas south of I-20 for the rest of the afternoon but coverage will be low less than 10%. It will be breezy, mild and muggy overnight with temperatures only dropping to near 70. Warm and breezy tomorrow with temperatures in the mid 80s and high humidity.
STORM CHANCES FOR THE WEEKEND...
This afternoon I have spent the last few hours poring over the forecast models which have come into a decent agreement as to the timing of storms for Dallas / Fort Worth Saturday evening into Saturday night. The timeframe that I can pinpoint as the time to watch for storms is from about 7pm thru 1am Saturday night into Sunday morning. This is about 6 hours faster than what the models were showing yesterday so we will see if they hold true to this timing as we get closer to Saturday.
SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER...
The Storm Prediction Center has places a portion of North Texas in the Slight Risk for severe weather Saturday evening and night. Below is a map outlining the area in the slight risk. The greatest threats are high winds and hail. As with any severe storms there is a small threat of tornadoes. It appears the tornado threat will be higher in Missouri and Iowa closer to the upper level disturbance that will be swinging thru the Plains.
TEXAS vs OU ~ or ~ OU vs TEXAS...
However you want to say it, it looks like it will be dry for the Red River Rivalry Saturday at 11am at the Cotton Bowl. It will be windy with south winds gusting to 30 mph. A mix of sun and clouds can be expected. But rain chances will hold off until later Saturday evening.
