Through The Lens: Taxi Santa
It's always refreshing to meet someone with true holiday spirit. We all get caught up in the busy holiday rush and forget to enjoy Christmas, but Johnny Wicker knows how to be jolly.
I met Johnny (A.K.A the Taxi Santa) as he was getting ready to decorate his cab. He has been a cab driver since the 70's but for the last ten years has decided to deck the cab out in lights and garland and dress himself up in that famous red and white suit and transform his Yellow Cab into Santa's Taxi.
Honks and waves are very common for the Taxi Santa as he drives around downtown Dallas. Wicker says he loves to spread the holiday cheer and visit those who can't get out to see Santa.
They say imitation is the highest form of flattery and Wicker says there are several other Taxi Santa's who have popped up around the world lately, including a skinny Santa in Japan who decorates his pedal-taxi to carry people to and from with the same Taxi Santa sign on the back.
So if you see the Taxi Santa driving around Dallas, give him a wave and a smile, because the joy he spreads is his gift to those around him and reminds us all that we shouldn't forget to enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.... Christmas!
