DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - As they gathered in Pilgrim Chapel on the Dallas Baptist University campus Sunday night, students reminded each other how Justin Schubert, Will Smith, and DJ Sarenac had left as lasting impact on all of them.

Marissa Full considered Justin her best friend, and a source of encouragement to everyone he met.

"He just was a really happy guy, and it's going to be really hard not seeing a happy, happy face on campus or in my life," said Full.

In the wake of the crash that killed their friends, many on campus couldn't help but think, it could have happened to any one of them.

"I was with them five minutes before the crash and I was asked by DJ to go with them," said student Johnathan Lara.

Now those closest to the victims hope this opportunity to grieve together will comfort the survivors as well as honor those lost.

"Let people be able to celebrate the lives of three amazing guys who I was close with," said student Cameron Walton.

"Mourning is not something that's bad. It's not something that we should turn away. Also I think it's something that we need to accept, and it's also something that helps us," said student Brett Price.

That crash site near campus has become a memorial with flowers and messages from loved ones.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
