FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Three elementary children tumbled into Harriet Creek as they tried to cross it on their way home Wednesday afternoon.
Police raced to the scene and started searching for them in the rushing water. One boy was found by an officer near the park and pulled out safely. Another boy and his sister were pulled out by a resident further down the creek. They were both okay -- in fact they walked home and police had to find them to make sure they were not injured.
"We as parents hate this day. On a normal day the creek where they cross is about 2 foot wide. But if you get any bit of rain it becomes 10 foot wide and rushing water right there," said parent Trevor Clayton.
Children normally follow a path and walk over the small creek, according to police, despite parents' warnings not to.
The school district is sending out emails tonight to parents to remind them to warn their kids about the dangers of crossing the flooded creek.
