Texas Food Bank Network Hunting Program Online
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas hunters have a chance to help people who need food.
Officials with the Texas Food Bank Network on Wednesday announced an online effort to raise awareness of Hunters for the Hungry. The program helps Texas hunters donate healthy venison to families served by the state's 21 regional food banks.
Celia Cole with the Texas Food Bank Network says the program is a win-win for hungry Texans and to help landowners manage the deer population.
Hunters can take their tagged, legally-harvested deer to a participating meat processor and pay a nominal fee for basic processing. Meat processors later contact local food assistance providers to pick up the packaged ground venison.
The Texas Food Bank Network this year assumed management of the program from the Texas Association of Community Action Agencies.
