Texan Guilty Of Killing Sister Who ID'd Him As Shooter

GREENVILLE (AP) — An East Texas man faces up to life in prison after being convicted in the death of his sister who while mortally wounded called 911 to report he shot her.

A Hunt County jury Tuesday convicted 62-year-old Martin Ray Malone of murder. The punishment phase was scheduled Wednesday over the 2017 death of 54-year-old Jayme Malone Lopez.

Authorities say Lopez called 911 to say Malone shot her. Her vehicle crashed at a park. Lopez died at a hospital.

The Greenville Herald-Banner reports investigators believe Malone shot his sister because he feared being convicted of aggravated assault against her in a 2015 case. She was slain days before a scheduled court hearing. Malone was convicted in 2007 of hitting Lopez.

Both were from Wills Point, 45 miles east of Dallas.
