Tarrant County Weathers Winter Storms

KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) - A snowy Sunday: What better reason to lay on the couch and relax? Unfortunately, that wasn't an option for road crews in Tarrant County. They spend the day loading sand into the trucks to battle frozen roads.

"We have 60 vehicles in Tarrant County to treat the bridges and overpasses," said Val Lopez, a Fort Worth TxDOT official. "We'll have personnel coming in shifts to drive then."

Much of Sunday was a waiting game for sand crews. The plan is to wait for the temperature to dip below freezing before sanding the roads.

But for some North Texas families, the snow was a diversion to spend time with loved ones. Like the Stefanchuk family of Keller, which added another member to their clan. He stood three feet tall and had a carrot for a nose.

"Last year we made a snowman that was about (five feet)," Alex Stefanchuk said.

For most of Tarrant County, Sunday's snowfall was enjoyed from the comforts of home. Not Daniel Stokes, however: The teenager was out in his element building snowmen.

"I love the snow," the Keller resident said. "It doesn't snow enough here. I want to move to Colorado or somewhere where it snows more, because I love the snow and the cold."
