T.S. Lee Update and Cold Front for North Texas

"LEE" HAS FORMED IN THE GULF… CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER COMING SUNDAY AND MONDAY…

Tropical Storm Lee has been declared in the Gulf of Mexico south of the Louisiana coast.  Rain bands have already started in Louisiana.  This storm will move slowly northward over the next several days eventually coming inland in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama over the weekend.  Some areas in these three states could see 10" to 20" of rain along with tropical storm force winds along the coast for a prolonged period of time.  None of this moisture will make it to North Texas.

FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS…

A FIRE WEATHER WATCH has already been posted for North Texas starting Sunday morning and continuing thru Monday Evening.  A cold front will arrive Sunday morning and bring some cooler weather for the first time since May into North Texas.  But the front will also usher in some strong winds.  Winds will shift to the north on Sunday and Monday.  Sustained winds will be 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.  Relative humidity will drop to 15% to 30%.  Any fires that are still burning or start during this time frame could quickly get out of control.  Unlike the fires this week that spread northward thanks to south winds, any fires on Sunday and Monday will spread southward thanks to those strong north winds.  It also doesn't appear like there will be much in the way of rain with this cold front.  At best a 10% chance of rain Saturday night and Sunday.

BEAUTIFUL NEXT WEEK..

This will be the nicest stretch of weather we have seen in a very long time next week.  Highs will be in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 60s each day next week!
