DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The crisis in Syria has hit home for some in North Texas.

Hasan Alsidawy said his heart breaks for the place he used to call home. Alsidawy and his family moved to Texas four months ago. The former teacher said in that time his life has changed drastically because he used to live in fear.

"I used to just stay inside, you could hear the bombs in the streets and the people yelling," said Alsidawy.

Hasan and his wife and daughters have since received assistance from Mosaic Family Services. Mosaic helps to provide resources for refugees, survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence.

Case manager Dhefar Alheleji said that they have seen an increase in refugees from Syria moving to Texas. The organization helps provide service like counseling, shelter, legal representation and client advocacy.

"We do whatever we can to help," said Alheleji.

Hasan said that he and his family are getting acclimated to America and finally feel safe, but he will continue to worry about Syria.

"Peace, peace, peace. It doesn't matter what religion or race -- that is what I hope for," he said.
