Sunday Forecast
We had a balmy, humid June-like day here in North Texas. This morning DFW Airport tied a record highest minimum temperature of 69 (previous was 1967: thanks Paul Ruekberg of NewsWatch Dallas). Highs reached near 100° in Breckenridge on our western edge. It was alway very windy, gusts hitting 39mph at DFW.
TONIGHT
We expect another very mild night. Temperatures should only drop to around 70° for a low. The typical low this time of year is in the mid-50's. Partly clouds skies tonight with a steady south wind 15-20mph.
STORM THREAT SUNDAY
As we get toward the peak of the daytime heating a cold front to our west is going to push the dry line into our western counties. This dry air combined with gusty winds will produce another day of high fire danger. Jack, Montague and Young counties are under a Red Flag Warning from 3pm to 7pm.
As the dry line draws closer to the metroplex a cold front behind it will start to help break the cap, the layer of warm air just above the surface that inhibits storm growth. There is a 20% chance of storms from the metro to the west through the rest of the day tomorrow.
The cold front arrives toward the end of day into the evening hours. The front will break the cap completely of course, this increase storm/rain chances to 40%. As the front moves to the east of DFW the rain chances increase. There is a risk of severe weather with these storms in the form of damaging winds and hail.
MONDAY
A brisk northwest wind on Monday will keep afternoon highs in the mid-70's, high fire danger returns to the western third with the dry air. We'll start the day with clouds but they should clear away by afternoon. Winds should be in the 15-25 mph range again.
TUESDAY, REST OF WORK WEEK
Tuesday morning lows will get down to the upper 40's in our northern tier counties from Gainesville over to Paris. A chilly start but the sunshine and diminished winds should allow for highs to reach the low 80's. The next rain chance shows up on late Wednesday and Thursday when another cold front moves through our area. Highs in the 70's heading into next weekend and the Fort Worth Arts Festival.
