PARKER COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A blast of wind roared over Weatherford Lake, burying homes and vehicles under piles of heavy wood early Wednesday morning.

In an instant, the tops of towering trees snapped, outbuildings were crushed and roofs were torn open.

It's almost impossible to see Ken Spirko's backyard, patio or RV under all the splintered wood.

Spirko says a reverse 911 call warned of the approaching danger.

"I thought it can't be that bad," said Spirko. "I look out the window and these trees started going and all of the sudden the winds come. She was looking out. And I pushed her back and I said, 'Don't get by the window because...'. And, boom! The tree come through. You can see right there the limb come through the window. The glass got me."

Spirko received 13 stitches in his stomach for his wounds. But he says the biggest injury will be to his retirement plan.

"There's my retirement. It took out my house, my RV. The only thing it left me was my boat. Now, we'll see how good the insurance is."

It will be days before workers cut and remove all the fallen trees so the amount of property damage can be assessed.
