Storms Tonight, Cold & Windy Tomorrow...
STORMS AND THEN COLD…
A cold front is gathering steam in Oklahoma and it will arrive later this evening and tonight here in North Texas. In the upper levels of the atmosphere there is a fast moving disturbance that currently is over Colorado and Kansas. This disturbance will dive southeast over Texas tonight and then into the Southeast tomorrow. This disturbance will help push the cold front thru North Texas tonight. And then get ready for the coldest air we have seen this season.
There is SLIGHT RISK of severe weather this evening/tonight as the front makes its way into North Texas. Most of the storms will be behind the cold front so there is little tornado threat. Instead, a few storms may produce hail up to quarters or golf balls. Strong gusty winds will increase behind the front. And where there are storms ongoing, those north winds may get a boast, so high winds will be a threat tonight with the storms. But by far the greatest concern is hail.
STORM TIMELINE…
It looks like storms may not start to develop until 7pm. Then a broken line of storms will move across North Texas. Depending on where the line forms will determine the timing for the metroplex. But best storm chance here would be from about 8pm thru 2am.
COLD AND WINDY TOMORROW…
Jacket weather tomorrow and you could even break out the long sleeve fall clothes you have been holding back. Tomorrow morning the rain will be gone, but winds will be very strong out of the north and temperatures will be in the low 50s. Winds will likely be gusting up to 30 to 35 mph, which will make it feel like it is in the 40s tomorrow morning. Sunny skies will help during the day on Tuesday, but high temperatures will only make it into the upper 60s with that strong north wind blowing all day.
EXTREME FIRE DANGER TOMORROW…
Even with the chance of some rain tonight, winds will be very strong tomorrow and with low humidity any fire that would develop would quickly spread. Areas east of I-35E are already under a Red Flag Warning from 1pm until 7pm Tuesday. The counties in red shading below are in the Red Flag Warning.
COLD MORNINGS…
Wednesday and Thursday morning will be the coldest mornings so far this season. Temperatures will start in the mid 40s both mornings here in Dallas and Fort Worth. Thursday morning will be the colder of the two unless some high clouds arrive Wednesday night. But we are looking at temps in the low 40s to mid-40s Thursday morning. There will be some upper 30s north of the metroplex.
ANOTHER RAIN CHANCE FOR THE WEEKEND…
Temperatures will warm back into the mid to upper 70s by Friday afternoon into the weekend. There could be a few showers or storms Saturday into Sunday morning. But this does not appear to be a significant rain maker. Just a fast moving disturbance that will sweep thru the area.
