Storms Continue Today

Clouds cover most of North Texas today with showers and storms mainly along a very slow moving cold front drifting southward from the Red River.  Still plenty of upper level energy in our atmosphere to combine with the cold front to provide our best chances for rain today, tonight and tomorrow as the front grinds to a halt across the southern third of North Texas.

Best rain chances look to be from the I-35 corridor eastward with the chances favoring the eastern half of the Metroplex.  Locally heavy rainfall, 40-50 mph wind gusts and lightning are likely with storms today through tomorrow.  Below is the forecast for today.  While there's at least a 20 percent chance for storms throughout the entire day, the highest chances will be during the heat of the day and into the mid-evening hours.  Storms will generally be moving north to south today.

The storm chances Tuesday will be best along the cold front that we'll ultimately call stationary by day's end.  Because of the slow moving nature of storms Tuesday, heavy rainfall to the tune of 2-3 inches is possible.  Outflow winds of 40-50 mph will again be possible along with dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.  The overall severe threat is minimal, however lightning is always dangerous and the wind gusts could become strong enough to do damage.  Storms will generally be moving northeast to southwest tomorrow.
