Small Storms Chances... Again
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Every day this week, we've enjoyed some storm activity around North Texas. Rain in June is always a blessing, and you'll again have a small chance of getting some free water on Thursday afternoon. The bulk of the storm chances are along the Red River counties and into our northwest corner (Jack and Wise Counties).
Here is the front's position by afternoon:
High temperatures on Thursday again get into the 90s. More sunshine on Thursday means a faster start to the warm-up. We'll again have clouds build up in the afternoon hours, but won't have the same strong wind of late.
The front moves over us late in the day, turning the winds east and then northeast. Slightly drier air will settle in overnight.
There might just be enough of this front around by Friday afternoon to inspire some storms. The chance is a mere 10 percent for Friday. High pressure really starts to build in for the weekend to inhibit the storm development. High temperatures on Friday should easily get into the upper 90s.
That high pressure system turns the summer switch to "on" for the weekend. We'll be sunny and hot on Saturday and Sunday, with high temperatures both days getting close to 100 degrees for the first time this year. It'll be the first weekend of summer, and feel every bit like it.
A system in the Gulf is starting to spin up. There is a 30 percent chance that it could develop into a tropical storm.
Almost all the forecast models put this low into Florida by the end of the weekend, bringing with it copious rain. There are a few computer models, however, that stall out the system over the weekend and then bring it into Texas by Tuesday.
A weak backdoor cold front might get into North Texas by Tuesday. Otherwise, we are stuck into the very hot weather that we get this time of year. If we don't hit 100 degrees for the first time this year on Sunday, it is likely we'll do it on Monday. Except for the chance of that front coming in from the northeast on Tuesday, or that tropical system hitting the Texas coast, it looks like 100-degree days will be the trend all of next work week. Yikes!
