Serious Break In Heat Coming
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Despite a few pop-up thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday, temperatures still climbed into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees in North Texas. Expecting more of the same for Monday and Tuesday, as an upper level high pressure ridge simply won't let go of control.
There will be a slight chance of thunderstorms again Monday afternoon, especially north of Interstate-20. But these will be smaller storms that pop-up. If a storm happens to develop overhead, it could produce very heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning for a short while. Most of us will be rain-free Monday and Tuesday.
As mentioned, the big upper high continues over Texas on Monday, with the hottest temperatures in the country once again in our backyard.
By Wednesday, the high pressure ridge will shift off to the west as the jet stream takes a dive to the south across the eastern half of the United States. This will surge cooler air into the Midwest and eastern U.S.
That dip in the upper level winds will drive a cold front into North Texas on Wednesday. We're expecting the best of chance of rain that day as the front arrives.
Behind the front, northerly winds will help keep temperatures below normal for the end of the week. Readings will be below normal for a few days in a row, with no threat for 100 degrees late this week. A much-needed break, I would say!
So, just isolated storms and hot for Monday and Tuesday. The best chance of storms will be Wednesday, then drier but also cooler for the end of the week and upcoming weekend.
