Sabra Issues Nationwide Hummus Recall Over Listeria Fears

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW) - Another popular food product has been recalled over fears of listeria contamination.

The Sabra Dipping Co. of Virgina has issued a nationwide recall of 30,000 cases of  it's Sabra Classic Hummus after inspectors with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development learned of the possible contamination by listeria monocytogenes after routine inspections.

According to the FDA the recall is limited to five stock unit, or UPS, numbers of Classic Hummus. No other Sabra product is affected at this time.

The Sabra products being recalled are listed below and were distributed to retail outlets, including food service accounts and supermarkets, in the U.S.

Consumers who have purchased any of these products are urged to dispose of or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call 1-888-957-2272, Monday – Friday 9:00AM to 4:30PM Central Time.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea
