Rutgers Fires Athletic Director Tim Pernetti
CBS SPORTS -- Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti has been fired, a source confirmed to CBSSports.com.
Pernetti hit men's basketball coach Mike Rice with a two-week suspension earlier in the season for his conduct, but then tapes surfaced earlier in the week of Rice and assistant Jimmy Martelli physically hitting players, throwing balls at their heads and also berating them with homophobic slurs.
Rice was fired a day later and Martelli resigned on Thursday.
Pernetti resigned on Friday morning. The Record and ESPN.com were the first to report the news. A news conference is expected on Friday.
