WACO (AP) - U.S. Army Corps Engineers officials say most of the Lake Waco parks damaged in last year's floods around Memorial Day weekend will reopen in the coming weeks.
Several Lake Waco parks were closed after the lake rose 17 feet above normal in the wake of the heavy rains.
Lake manager Heath McLane tells the Waco Tribune-Herald for Saturday's editions that the flooding damaged restrooms, sewer lift stations and electrical infrastructure. It also piled woody debris throughout the parks.
The Lake Waco office spent more than $250,000 from its operating budget on the repairs.
The lake was practically inaccessible for weeks following the flooding. McLane says the lake usually gets between 800,000 and 1 million visitors a year, but that number was cut nearly in half last year.
