Rangers Spotlight: Chi Chi Gonzalez

By Jared Sandler | @SandlerJ

105.3 THE FAN -- Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzalez is one of the Rangers' top prospects. The organization is very high on him and believes he will be a part of their rotation for years to come. While he entered camp as a longshot to make the rotation in 2015, an injury to Yu Darvish has opened the door for him earn a spot.

The Rangers have financial incentive to leave him off the big league roster out of camp -- and, Rangers fans, don't look at this as being cheap, look at it as being smart -- but I think he will make his Major League debut before the year comes to an end.

Gonzalez is a ground ball pitcher who, as catcher Chris Gimenez described to me, "...has nasty movement on all of his pitches." So far this Spring, Gonzalez has allowed two runs on four hits in 4.2 innings, striking out six.

Off the field, Gonzalez is a very polite and fun guy to be around with plenty of interests outside of baseball. Take a few minutes and get to know a guy I think will be pitching in Arlington for years to come.
