Rain Gone, But Cold Front Arrives Tonight
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The strong upper level low that has influenced our weather the past few days is now centered over Central Kansas. This upper level system like all upper level lows has a lot of cold air in it.
Snow fell last evening in Denver and the current temperature in Denver is 40 degrees. This upper level low will slowly move east tonight and eventually stall out over the Tennessee Valley this weekend. This will mean cooler than normal temperatures for us and low humidity.
THIS EVENING…
A cold front is located across central Oklahoma into Northwest Texas this afternoon. That front will be the focus for some showers and thunderstorms mainly into Oklahoma and the northern two rows of counties here in North Texas. So areas north of Denton to McKinney will have the chance for seeing a few storms this afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center is debating on issuing a watch for this area over the next hour or two if storms start to develop.
The big storm complex that has been rolling thru central and south Texas has complicated the storm chances somewhat. A lot of the cloud cover from that complex has ended up here in North Texas. That has really limited how warm it has gotten. Also on the backside of the storm complex there is a lot of sinking air. That has definitely surpassed the atmosphere's ability to get air moving upward.
These hindrances will likely be overcome by another strong disturbance rotating around that upper level low in Kansas. This will likely trigger the storms in Oklahoma and northern parts of North Texas. There is still a little uncertainty as to whether storms will actually develop here in North Texas. They could all be in Oklahoma. But it is something we will be watching thru the afternoon and evening.
COLD FRONT ARRIVES TONIGHT…
The cold front will pass thru DFW later tonight. A small chance of showers and an isolated thunderstorm will be possible overnight as the front comes thru. The front will clear DFW by sunrise. Tonight temperatures will drop into the mid 60s. Behind the front low humidity and cool temperatures.
FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND…
It will be a bit breezy on Friday with NW winds at 15 to 25 mph. And temperatures will only warm into the mid 70s. Normal high for this time of year is 82.
Saturday and Sunday will feature sunny skies on Saturday with a few high clouds on Sunday. Both mornings will start off cool in the mid to low 50s. And the afternoon high temperatures will be between 72 and 74 degrees. Very refreshing for the middle of May.
NEXT STORM CHANCE NOT UNTIL THURSDAY…
Quiet weather with low humidity and pleasant temperatures will persist thru the middle of next week. Next rain chance won't be until next Thursday.
