ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A crash involving a propane truck caused a traffic nightmare in Arlington Friday morning, which lasted into the night. Many businesses and residents who live near the crash site were impacted.
It happened at around 6:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate-20, close to the Green Oaks Boulevard exit.
"It was like bending metal… like screeching metal from the truck sliding down the highway," said Keith Jolly with Blades Barber Shop.
The sound of the crash woke Jolly up, who reacted by jumping out of bed to see what happened. "And about 5 minutes later, it was just chaos. I could look out the window and see traffic," he said.
Jolly made it into work despite traffic delays, but many of his customers stayed home.
"I would usually have 5 or 6 people sitting here waiting on me," said Jolly about the crash's impact on his workday.
The barbershop where Jolly wasn't the only business to lose business due to the incident.
The incident caused a nearby Whataburger to lose business.
"We're usually pretty slammed," said Whataburger employee Joshua Lowe. The popular eatery was anything but slammed Friday, with only a few determined diners fighting to make it in for a meal.
"They tell me they've had to cut through parking lots to get here to come eat. They've had to cut through a church parking lot to get back home," said Lowe.
Much like many other people working near the fiery crash site, Lowe isn't looking forward to his ride home either.
"I have a feeling when I get off at ten, it'll probably take me 45 minutes to get right up the road," he said.
As of late Friday evening, the propane fire continued to burn. Police told CBS11 News they expected it to continue burning until Saturday morning.
