Popular North Texas Coach Files Suit After Arrest & "False Imprisonment"

BURLESON (CBSDFW.COM) – An attorney representing Jessica Curs, a North Texas coach arrested at a basketball game between third-graders and thrown in jail for six hours, filed a lawsuit in district court today. Her attorneys claim the coach, wife and mother was assaulted, battered, falsely imprisoned, and maliciously prosecuted, among other things.

The City of Alvarado, Alvarado Police Department and police Captain Gary Melson are all named in the suit.

The Alvarado Police Department had pursued a Class A misdemeanor charge against Curs, alleging she tried to evade arrest after cursing at the department's off-duty captain. The 31-year-old coach from Burleson denied the accusation, saying the officer, in plain clothes, misunderstood her, but subsequently received an evading arrest warrant in the mail and turned herself in at the Johnson County Jail.

An investigation by the CBS 11's I-Team resulted in the criminal case being dropped. Johnson County Attorney Bill Moore told the I-Team, "Your reporting caused us to take a closer look at the case. Just based on a thorough review of it, I don't think an offense was committed."
