LEWISVILLE(CBSDFW.COM) - While homeowners near Lake Lewisville worry about rising water, the biggest party place on the lake is already partly under water. But it's not stopping business.
Sneaky Pete's owner says this weather will cost him about a million dollars and 75 percent of the sprawling club, pool, volleyball, and beach is underwater. But if the lake rises another few feet, this local institution may have to do something it's never done. Close.
Nick Mehmeti greets customers with a smile. It's also how he's dealing with a newly remodeled pool that's now totally underwater along with Sneaky Pete's signature gazebo bar, volleyball courts and beach.
For 11 years, Mehmeti has offered lakeside dining and more than a thousand customers a night during the summer. But after record rainfall, his business is the only one of its kind still open despite being 75-percent submerged.
"We don't believe in closing," says Mehmeti.
Mehmeti says the flooding will cost him $500,000 a month. But the bad news for loyal customers is the water isn't expected to recede for a month.
"I just want to know what were going to do if it rains some more," sayas Kayleigh Phelan of Lewisville. "We just pray we don't get another three feet of water."
That would force Sneaky Pete's to temporarily close. Something the owner is determined to avoid.
"Unfortunately we can't control Mother Nature," says Mehmeti. "It is what it is hopefully everybody is okay."
The restaurant still has a lot of loyal customers who will still come out here for a meal and live music on a Friday night. But it's nothing like the crowds this place usually draws.
