DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police are asking for the public's help identifying a man who's attacking women in northeast Dallas.

He grabbed a woman Monday evening who was walking on Northwest Highway, just under 635. He beat and tried to rape her.

Police said the stretch of walkway where the crime happened is an area known for panhandling and prostitution.

"Sometimes I see guys panhandle, then they drink their beer out in the field," said Dallas resident Omar Traylor.

Several area shop owners told CBS11 the area is known as a a hot spot for drugs, alcohol and homelessness.

Regardless of the types of people who frequent the area, police said they need to find the man responsible for hurting unsuspecting women there.
