Police Searching For Intruder Who Fought With Homeowner

FLOWER MOUND (CBSDFW.COM) - A home invasion in Flower Mound ends with a suspect on the run and a homeowner recovering from her injuries.
Police say they received a call about a burglary in the early morning hours of July 28. When officers arrived at the home in the 2400 block of Conroe Court they found a woman shaken and hurt.
Amy Allen recounted her attack to a local newspaper saying she was restless and decided to run her sprinkler system about 2:30 in the morning, when she noticed a red light on the alarm system. She said when she saw the door to the backyard open she simply thought she hadn't closed it properly from one of her trips outside.
The woman said she then went into the kitchen and saw "a dark figure standing with his back to me." The woman said it was when the man turned and saw her that she realized she was standing between the intruder and her children. Her husband, Mike Allen, said that changed everything. "This was Mama Bear. She went after him," he said. "She went after him, and she caught him right here, right about here and got a hold of his shoulders, and was screaming, 'get out of my house, get out of my house.'"
The woman fought with the masked man and managed to somehow push him out the back door. Amy remembered vividly, "I caught him around the top of his arms, and I just kind of kept his arms pinned to him, and I hit him at a run, and I was pushing hard just to get him out the door. The door was wide open. That was my goal."
But that wasn't the end. Mike said, "So she's standing right here and kind of exhales. He starts banging on the door and screaming and breaks through the double-pane glass, and comes in, and goes at her again."
Mike said he walked in as the intruder approached his wife for the second time, and was able to scare him away.
Days after the incident he sat asking, "Why would he come back in? He had a perfect out. He was already outside the house, locked. He had to figure she was going to call the police."
"I couldn't imagine why he would come back in I mean I had given him... I'd helped him escape," Amy said. "I figured he would run, and he didn't. He came back in, and I never... I don't know that I'll ever understand that."
Police are now analyzing evidence, including blood, that was gathered from the scene. It doesn't appear the bandit took anything from the home.
Captain Wess Griffin, with the Flower Mound Police Department, said the incident is unusual. "There are a lot of odd behaviors, and weird things about this offense."
The suspect is described as being a white male with light colored hair, standing between 5'10" and 6' tall. He has a slender build and at the time of the crime was wearing a white plastic mask, a black hoodie with no markings and dark colored pants.
Police say the suspect may have glass cuts on his hands, face, or arms. Amy is a little battered and bruised, but not seriously injured. But Mike said the break-in has certainly shaken the entire family. "The mask, the hoodie, that's scary enough, but coming back in the house... that's really, really scary."
