Police: Man Aggressively Approaching Teenage Girls
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Dallas Police are looking for a man they believe to be involved in three incidents involving four girls in south Dallas neighborhoods over the last month.
The first two incidents happened the morning of November 5. In the 3000 block of W. Wheatland Road, police say a girl reported a man exposing himself to her at 7:30 in the morning.
Around 8 a.m., police received another report from two girls on Village Fair Drive, that a suspicious man approached them as they walked to school.
"I have a child and I don't want to see nothing happen to her like that," said Spencer Shaw, who owns a barber shop on Village Fair. Shaw says he'll keep a look out; a lot of children walk to the alternative school down the road from where he works.
Then, just yesterday on December 2, police say a man tried to talk to a girl walking on Kimballdale Drive. When she ran, police say he chased her on foot, before returning to his car and driving away.
Michelle Rudd lives on this block of Kimballdale. She says her niece attends Tolbert Elementary School, and brought home a letter on Monday from the principal, with information on the incidents.
"I will keep an eye out. I'm always watching for something that doesn't look right," Rudd said.
The girls are all 14 to 16-year-olds and attend middle and high schools in DISD. Police say the suspect may be looking for girls who are walking alone or in isolated areas.
Another common factor: all the victims reported the suspect to be driving a black sedan. Police say the vehicle may be a newer model, with silver or chrome grill and trim.
"Our patrol officers are going and making sure the [students] are getting to and from school, but we can't do it by ourselves. We need the help from the community and the parents. Parents who take kids to school and see something. They will know if they see something suspicious," said Deputy Chief Gil Garza, with Dallas Police.
DISD is sending letters home with parents on Tuesday, asking them to be alert and to make sure their children don't walk alone.
Anyone with information or anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to call Dallas police.
