Plano Uses Mosquitofish To Minimize West Nile Virus
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Plano released thousands of "mosquitofish" at the Plano Parkway Service Center and Pecan Hollow Golf Course Tuesday in an effort to reduce mosquitos.
Mosquitofish's diet often consists of large amounts of mosquito larvae, relative to body size.
They were introduced directly into ecosystems in many parts of the world as a biocontrol to lower mosquito populations, which in turn helps minimize the spread of the West Nile Virus.
