PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – The high school sports world is still talking about what happened on Friday night in Plano.
It's where cameras captured what's being called a dirty play used to try and take out one of North Texas's best players. Brian Polendey is one of DFW's top high school football recruits.
The Denton Guyer tight end says he was having one of his best games ever on Friday against Plano. "I was dominating the line of the scrimmage and we were moving the ball pretty well."
Polendey believes his performance led one of Plano's players to deliver a chop block which is illegal at all levels of football. A player driving into the knees of another who is blocking someone else.
"All of a sudden I felt a defensive lineman collapse into my leg," says Polendey. It's unclear if the block was intentional.
The 17-year-old didn't realize how scary the block was until he saw it on video. "I don't want to be mean or anything, but it's just flat out dirty," he says.
Plano's coaching staff has apologized. In a statement to CBS 11 News the district says "...such actions are not taught or condoned by the Plano Senior High coaching staff and that appropriate action would be taken."
Plano student athletes say their coaches would never teach such behavior.
"They wouldn't tell you to go and do a career ending injury, like stopping somebody from walking anymore," says Rodney Andrews, Plano Sr. H.S. Track Team.
Polendey wasn't seriously injured. He has a bright future and has already accepted a scholarship to The University of Miami. But he doesn't want what happened on Friday to be forgotten. "I'd like to see a little bit of justice done," he says.
