Perot Museum Offers Inside Look At Animals
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Educational. Eerie. Utterly fascinating.
All words that describe this inside look at the animals on display at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science's newest exhibit, Animals Inside Out.
Today hundreds of slices from a plastinated giraffe were pieced together in marionette-style form, revealing its muscles, trachea and esophagus.
The exhibit will include a gorilla, goat, a segmented horse head and an Asian elephant - 100 plus specimens preserved using plastination.
Plastination is the same process used by the team behind Gunther von Hagen's "Body Worlds" exhibition, which involves extracting all water and fatty tissues from the specimen and replacing them with polymers in a vacuum.
Museum officials assure none of the animals in the exhibition was killed for the purposes of plastination.
They also assure you'll leave their newest exhibit utterly enlightened.
"Animal Inside Out" opens September 22, 2013.
