People With Little Time, Big Hearts Helping At Christmas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Giverosity is a funny sounding word. But it's one that two young North Texas women hope will catch on this Christmas and that their "giverosity" will inspire yours.
Emily Dawson and Taylor Brown know how one toy can make one child's Christmas the best one ever. Dawson and Brown are both 23, young professionals, fresh out of college, with no children of their own.
But they hope to make Christmas bright for 80 children who are in temporary housing for the homeless in Dallas. "We're hoping to make some kids really happy this Christmas," says Brown.
To do that, they created a website they call "Giverosity." With the click of a button, givers can buy the toys that will be delivered the homeless children whose families are in temporary apartments provided by the Interfaith Housing Coalition.
Toys Unique! of Dallas provided the toy selection. "Honestly we're both analysts and we sit in front of a computer all day and we're just trapped there and we wanted to find some way for busy people..." explains Dawson. "To do something, you know, in five minutes or less," says Brown.
How did these two young professionals know what toys to get? They worked with the store to get something that would be right on target. Interfaith's Cathy King said it hits at the right time - Christmas!
"This is the time when people when people want to give and this Is the time like all times that homeless people
have got needs," says King. The Interfaith Housing Coalition will soon set up an area for parents to choose the gifts best suited for their children.
But, it's what homeless children want that Dawson and Brown hope to fulfill making this time the best time of the year for them.
Giverosity has only been up and running a few days and it's already generated 80 toys for the 80 children hoping to receive them at the Interfaith Housing Coalition. Now, the young women hope their website will generate two, maybe even three gifts for each child.
