ARGYLE (CBS11)—A cemetery caretaker is on a mission to find out where a broken headstone that made it's way to his cemetery came from.

Scott Norton says the more than 100-pound headstone fragment didn't come from his cemetery and now he wants to return it to its place of origin.

Norton said, "It needs a home. It needs a place of rest for the family who loved this person very much."

He said it was found recently at a construction site near the cemetery and was delivered to him. Those who found it believed it came from his cemetery but none of the graves at the Graham-Argyle Cemetery were missing their headstones.

Norton is hoping someone recognizes it and helps him get it back to its proper place.

He added, "Surely there is some family living here or near here that has information. That was my grandson or my son or daughter...we just don't know."

If you recognize the stone and want to help you can find contact details for Norton and the cemetery here.
