SAN ANTONIO (AP) – A San Antonio couple have been charged in the death of their toddler. Authorities charged the couple with child abandonment after their toddler died in a house fire while left home alone.

Police say one-year-old Taliyah Edwards died at the scene Thursday night resulting in the arrest of 25-year-old Charles Shorts and 23-year-old Tyler Terry.

San Antonio police say the couple told authorities that they left for a few minutes to go down the street. The pair returned to find firefighters at the burning residence.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
