Parched September
It will come as little surprise that this has been the driest September in 11 years in North Texas. DFW Airport has recorded only 0.65" of rainfall this month. The average rainfall for the month of September is 2.55" to give you an idea of what's more typical.
Check out the September rainfall amounts from the past ten years.
The last two Septembers have been very wet. In 2009 we had a prolonged period of rainfall, giving DFW over 6 1/2 inches of rain that September. Last year, Tropical Storm Hermine moved through North Texas dumping copious amounts of rain. That September some areas saw over 11 inches of rain...while DFW scored over 9 inches of rain during the 4th wettest September on record.
This will be the 14th driest September on record, assuming we don't see any rainfall tomorrow or Friday. The drought has a major grip on the entire state as we enter the Winter wildfire season on Saturday.
