Overturned Tanker Truck Impacts Dallas Commuters

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An overturned tanker truck is causing some troubles for commuters in west Dallas. The truck flipped over at about 3:00 a.m. Friday morning near the intersection of Singleton Boulevard and Chalk Hill Road, near a Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus station.

Officials on the scene speculate that the driver hit a lingering icy patch on the roadway, causing him to lose control of the truck and crash. The driver is fine. There were no other vehicles involved in this incident and no injuries.

The concern has turned to the tanker truck's load of fuel, which could have been as much as 9,000 gallons. Authorities believe that more than 1,000 gallons of fuel may have leaked onto the road. Dallas Fire-Rescue called for sand trucks to assist with absorbing this spilled fuel. Another tanker truck arrived at the scene to help transport the fuel that did not leak from the overturned tanker. Clearing the scene could take hours.

Meanwhile, this area of Singleton Boulevard has been shut down in both directions. The DART buses that use the nearby station are still running. However, according to DART spokesman Morgan Lyons, they are not stopping at the station. The buses are simply stopping along Singleton Boulevard, outside of the closed off area.
