Open House Today At The Federal Reserve Bank Of Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It's an open house of a different kind today at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Visitors are being invited to come by and learn about the Federal Reserve, money and the economy.
The Reserve will also give visitors a sneak peek at some new currency. "Whoever comes in will see the new $100 bill note, three months before it's released," Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher explained. "We're gonna have a group down here to show how the money is actually printed."
In addition to the interactive and multimedia displays, experts in their fields will offer family-friendly activities. "I think it will be just great fun. Seeing sheets of currency. Seeing how the Secret Service does spot counterfeits and also seeing how money is actually printed."
Workers with the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing will also be on hand; offering some behind-the-scene demonstrations. "We're gonna have a lot of people down there actually showing how money's engraved," Fisher said. "Sheets of money will be sold to those that want to buy it, and it'll be really cool."
Representatives from the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Western Currency Facility in Fort Worth will also be onsite offering children a chance to create their own currency note. Adults and kids can take part in craft demonstrations. And in addition to souvenir sheets of money, other currency novelty items will be sold.
The Reserve "open house" runs until 3 p.m. at the Dallas Fed, located at 2200 N. Pearl Street downtown.
