North Texas Waking Up To Freezing Temperatures
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - Some light precipitation was still falling early Monday morning in the form of flurries and drizzle. The temperatures will continue to be below freezing during the morning hours, and that could lead to some icy spots, mainly on the bridges and overpasses. Also, be careful walking on some sidewalks, as they are developing ice as well.
Widespread travel problems are not expected in the immediate Metroplex, however, from Collin County to Rockwall County to Ellis County -- and all points north and east -- we are more concerned with icy travel, mainly because these regions saw three to six inches of accumulating snow on Sunday. That will lead to more issues in our northeastern counties.

Dozens of schools and businesses in that northeastern area of North Texas are either closed for the day or having a late start due to the remnants of the winter storm. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth placed a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon on Monday for areas east of a Sherman-Dallas-Palestine line.
Icy conditions also led to scattered flight cancellations at DFW International Airport both on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said that about 140 flights were canceled on Sunday, but only about a dozen flights from the carrier's main hub were canceled on Monday.
DFW International Airport spokesman David Magana said that 20 flights to Atlanta and two flights to Memphis -- areas being impacted by the winter storm on Monday -- have been canceled overall.

Temperatures will be slow to climb on Monday. The light freezing precipitation will end Monday morning, but the clouds will hang tough and temperatures may not even get above freezing -- likely remaining between 27 degrees and 31 degrees. That means that any snow left on the ground will be slow to melt.
And it's only going to get colder.
Another surge of frigid air will come through Monday night. Winds will pick up out of the north at 15 to 30 mph. That, combined with temperatures in the lower 20s, will give us wind chills ranging between 5 and 15 degrees! That is certainly a dangerous cold Monday night and Tuesday morning. Again in our northeastern counties, there could be some icy spots on the roadways come Tuesday morning. Most of us will have dry roads, but extreme cold.

Then, we will see plenty of sunshine on Tuesday and Wednesday, but temperatures will continue to be about 20 degrees below normal. Look for afternoon high temperatures on both days to be in the lower-to-middle 30s. And low temperatures will be in the upper teens and lower 20s.
