North Texas Native Named Soldier Of The Year
Army Staff Sgt. Zackary Filip is a native of Denton Texas and has just been named 2010 Soldier of the Year by "Army Times."
Filip recieved the award yesterday during an event in the nation's capitol. Filip is an Army medic who has served as a squad leader in Afghanistan----AND was at Ft. Hood's Processing Center last November. Sgt. Filip is the one credited with saving Kimberly Munley's life. The civilian police officer had been shot in the leg and Filip used his belt to put a tourniquet on her wound.
Munley is the one who shot and wounded Major Nidal Hassan, who is awaiting trial for the Ft. Hood massacre.
