FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Even before the sun rose Friday morning North Texans started lining up to get a free Thanksgiving meal.

The line in east Fort Worth started before dusk and just before lunchtime there were still lines of cars waiting at the Fort Worth HOPE Center on East Loop 820.

According to their website, it was because of the "generosity of individuals in the community and corporate sponsors" that the Fort Worth HOPE Center was able to turkey and all the trimmings to 1000 families who live in impoverished communities to cook at home for their families.

Willie Brown showed up at 4 o'clock this morning. This is the first year he's come to the center. Like so many other Tarrant County residents he heard the church was giving out Thanksgiving meals.

"This is wonderful. This is a great idea here… turkey and the dressing," he said. "Thank God for this church."

Moving the dozens and dozens of turkeys isn't easy, so more than 30 Lockheed Martin employees volunteered to help put the food in vehicles.

Officials with the Fort Worth Hope Center say $25 donations through their 'Adopt a Family for Thanksgiving' program made the holiday donations possible.

Joann Reyes, the president and co-founder of the HOPE Center, said, "I see a lot of needy people and I see a lot of people blessed that they are going to have a wonderful Thanksgiving."

Families did have to pre-register and qualify to get a meal. But if you miss today's giveaway the HOPE Center will be doing it again on Tuesday, November 24 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The HOPE Center also plans on giving away holiday meals for Christmas.
