New Argyle Mayor Faces DWI Charge

ARGYLE (AP) –  A man facing a charge of driving while intoxicated has been elected mayor of a small North Texas town, defeating the incumbent.

Matt Smith was elected mayor of Argyle in Saturday's election, getting 253 of the 493 votes casts in the mayoral race. Argyle, a town of about 3,000, is located about 40 miles northwest of Dallas.

He wrote in an e-mail to the Denton Record-Chronicle that he's honored to represent his fellow citizens.

Smith faces a charge of driving while intoxicated from a January arrest in nearby Flower Mound.

Denton attorney Rick Hagen has said Smith's case is pending and he and his client plan to dispute it.
