Nearly 7,500 Pack Potter's House To Hear Talk Show Host Dave Ramsey

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – When Dave Ramsey takes the stage, people listen. Saturday's appearance at the Potter's House in Dallas drew a crowd of 7,500, looking to get a dose of the syndicated talk show host's common sense advice.

"It's really made a big change in our lives, as far as the amount of security we have," said Mike Malone, who started listening to Ramsey's radio show at his wife's urging.

The couple is now paying off its debts and looking forward to retirement day,
"January the 31st, 2021," says Malone.

Dave Ramsey himself admits there's no magic to what he's selling.
The financial guru, though, can relate to the masses.

"Twenty years ago, my wife, son, and I went broke. We lost everything," said Ramsey, "We know how it feels. So we can connect to people who've been hurting."

A Christian man, Ramsey turned to Bible scriptures for financial guidance.
"They sounded a lot like grandma, kind of like common sense," he said

The first steps he teaches followers to take:
- Save $1,000 dollars to start an emergency fund. Next, list your debts and pay them off, starting with your smallest.

Then, begin investing 15 percent of your income for retirement

"The truth is, anybody can do this stuff," said Ramsey.

When people have hope, though, he believes, they have motivation to make change.
