Near Record Low This Morning

What a great start to the weekend. This was the coolest summer morning since June 7th and fell within one degree of tying a record low for the date:

The dewpoints this afternoon stayed in the upper 50's, the lowest they've been any afternoon this month. Clear skies tonight and a light east wind will allow lows to drop to the upper 60's (within a couple of degrees of a record for the day). The sunshine will alow highs to reach up to the low 90's. Again, dewpoints will stay in the 50's. All the sunshine and lack of wind will increase ozone levels to unhealthy levels for those sensitive to pollution. It an Ozone Action Day, stay inside during the afternoon when ozone counts peak in the lower levels of the atmosphere:

There is a tropical low down in the southern Gulf of Mexico. The dry air that moved over north Texas reached into the west side of this low and stopped it from developing into a tropical depression or storm. Most of the forecast models show it drifting west into the Mexican coastline by Monday:

The system is already pumping moisture into a stalled front along the Gulf coast centered on Mobile Bay. Huge rains have been the story across the Florida panhandle and southern Georgia. It'll be dry here but a wash-out in the same places tomorrow. The areas you see in red and purple represent 2"-4" of rain:

The weather pattern is shifting again. A deep trough over the east will retreat over the next 48 hours back to the north:

.

This allows a dome of high pressure over the east to start pushing a southeast and south wind into north Texas, tapping into the always humid rich gulf air:

The increased moisture will team up with the afternoon heating by mid-week to get some storms going. The chances stay low but stay around into the weekend.

Highs will stay away from the triple digit numbers. Nice break from the way August started when almost every day in the first two weeks reached 100° or higher:
