Monday Morning Forecast

A category one hurricane is in the Gulf. Ingrid and her 75-mph winds will come onshore today just north of Tampico, Mexico; about 180 miles to the south of Brownsville, Texas. This is the second hurricane of the season and the first to make landfall.

Tremendous rains are expected along the Sierra Madre (East) as the Ingrid weakens inland along the foothills. Moisture from yet another tropical system, Tropical Depression Manual in the Pacific north of Acapulco, is helping add to the rainfall totals:

Near a foot of rain could fall along the storm's path:

For the drought-stricken Rio Grand Valley 2"-3" of rain could fall:

Coastal flooding is anticipated from South Padre to the north. Hurricane Ingrid has kicked up the surf will the steady east winds have produced powerful rip currents:

For north Texas this system isn't doing much for us. We have a weak cold front just to our north. The forecast is for this front to stall out just around the Red River. This will trigger a round of early afternoon T'storms that will go on into evening:

A stronger cold front is predicted to come through north Texas on Friday. It will tap into the deep pool of moisture over the gulf and bring it into north Texas. This brings our storm chances up to around 30% on Friday as we cool down.

Notice in the extended below there are highs only in the 80's forecast for Friday.  So far this August the average high at the airport is 97.3° F. The "average" high today is 88°.
