MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - Mesquite police arrested the treasurer of the Tarrant/Dallas County Charity Toy Run Friday on a felony theft warrant.

Todd McEvoy, 45, is accused of embezzling more than $71,000 from the charity between October 2012 and December 2013.

Investigators said he used on the money on personal expenses, including the purchase of new four-wheelers and a trailer.

Board members first reported inconsistencies in the charity's finances to police in July.

The annual Big Texas Toy Run is the largest charity biker run in Texas.  Money raised from the ride is supposed to go towards helping mentally and physically challenged children.

Upon hearing the news, bikers at Strokers Ice House reacted in anger and frustration.

"It's beyond belief," said the bar's owner, Rick Fairless.  "The guy has to be the lowest guy I know."

Fairless has participated in more than twenty of the Big Texas Toy Runs.

He said if it comes down to it, he'll personally make sure the ride goes on as scheduled this year.

"You are not going to stop bikers from getting together and raising money for kids," he said. "Nobody can do that.
