Meeting To Discuss Houston Astrodome's Future
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astrodome's future will be the focus of an invitation-only meeting.
The Astrodome's fate has been in limbo since voters last year failed to approve a referendum that would have authorized up to $217 million in bonds to convert the stadium into a giant convention and event center.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett is holding a "stakeholders meeting" Wednesday with various groups and individuals to discuss recent developments about the Astrodome.
The meeting comes after a Texas Historical Commission advisory committee voted last month to recommend designating the Astrodome as a "state antiquities landmark." Such a designation could make it more difficult to tear down the Astrodome, as any proposals to alter or demolish it would have to be approved by the commission.
