Man From Wise County To Stand Trial In '68 Pa. Homicide
BRODHEADSVILLE, Pa. (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — A Pennsylvania judge has ruled that a man from Wise County will stand trial in the 1968 killing of a Bethlehem Steel employee.
Monroe County District Judge Colleen Mancuso ruled Friday that there was enough evidence for the murder case to proceed against 67-year-old Richard Keiper.
Keiper, of Boyd, was charged last month with killing Alfred Barnes, an assistant to the vice president at Bethlehem Steel.
Hunters found Barnes' bullet-riddled body in a field on Oct. 19, 1968. His new 1969 Ford Thunderbird was later recovered in Warren County, N.J., where authorities found Barnes' blood and a .32-caliber bullet on the drivers' side floor.
According to court records, Texas Rangers questioned Keiper after new information surfaced and he confessed to the slaying.
