Man Drowns In Lake Ray Hubbard After Sailboat Mishap

LAKE RAY HUBBARD (CBSDFW.COM) - A 48-year-old man drowned in Lake Ray Hubbard on the Fourth of July after getting knocked into the water by the boom of his sailboat.
The man had just left Captain's Cove Marina with his father, who is in his 70's. Workers at the marina described both men as experienced sailors.
The Game Warden said the boom had not been secured and struck the man when the sail shifted in the wind.
"The dad tried to throw a personal safety device out to him," said Lt. Lance May. "It didn't reach him."
May said that the man's father couldn't get the motor to turn over either and the two drifted apart.
The man tried to swim for upwards of 15 minutes before falling beneath the waves.
The man was not wearing a life jacket.
