GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - One man died in a serious car crash near Grapevine early Friday morning. The incident happened at about 3:20 a.m. along westbound Highway 114, near the exit into DFW International Airport -- where ongoing road construction on the DFW Connector project has already been creating traffic delays and closures for months.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene to find the man's vehicle -- a Ford Mustang -- on fire. Lt. Todd Dearing of the Grapevine Police Department said that the car left the highway traveling at a high rate of speed, striking a concrete block that held a traffic sign. The car then rolled over several times and caught on fire.

The driver was ejected at some point during the crash. He died before authorities arrived. "The vehicle had one occupant," Dearing said. "No other persons or vehicles were involved."

The Grapevine Police Department is still conducting a full investigation. Some lanes of Highway 114 were closed in the hours following the crash, but all have since reopened to regular traffic. Still, drivers are advised to check traffic conditions before heading through Grapevine on Friday.
